Remembering Our Ancestors, encaustic mixed media, 6x12 inches, framed in black float frame
Remembering Our Ancestors is a mixed media encaustic piece that includes rare wormy chestnut wood.
Wormy Chestnut is from American Chestnut trees that were killed by the chestnut blight of the early 1900s. These trees were damaged by insects, leaving holes and discoloration in the standing trees which were then harvested and converted into lumber. Because the blight wiped out nearly all mature American Chestnut trees, its lumber is rare and valuable. Wormy Chestnut is usually salvaged from old barns and other structures, and reprocessed and sold as reclaimed lumber.
